Pacific Islands Fisheries Group Supports Fishers through International Shark Depredation Workshop Hosted in Honolulu, HI

The Pacific Islands Fisheries Group helped organize and coordinate an international workshop with over 50+ participants including more than a dozen fishermen from across our Pacific Islands Region including American Samoa, Guam, CNMI, and Hawaii to share fishers concerns, needs, and prioritization of recommended actions to improve the quality of life within the fishing community.

The workshop was hosted by the Western Pacific Regional Fishery Management Council.

The workshop hosted over two days heard presentations on current shark status in the region, policy and regulations from local to international, new shark deterrent technology, and concluded with recommendations on a way forward to addressing the issue.
