May 2026

Eric Suzuki’s 33” Kagami

Aloha Taggers,

Happy May. The Fishing is on fire, Halalu/sardines & Oama are showing up across the islands, and the fish are biting.

This will be a season to watch with plenty of bait in the water. The fish tagged now, we hope will someday be recaptured and show us the growth/changes occurring in a season where we have had some of the heaviest rainfalls in decades and a high abundance of bait in the water. Good luck out there and check out the Summer recognition categories below!

April Catches

Some of the great pictures submitted in April

Recaptures:

We had two recaptures this month. a Moi tagged by Matt Mita and an Omilu we are currently working to put the data together on.

The Moi, tag A14231 (image above) was originally tagged by Matt Mita in March and recaptured by Jonah Kalili with a thrownet, not far from where it was tagged. The moi was at liberty for 33 days and did not grow or change length. Good Going Matt on a healthy release and thank you Jonah for submitting the data!

The Omilu we are working on the data is tag A6494 and was recaptured by Isaiah Toledo with a weight of 9.5 lbs. We will provide more information about the Omilu as it becomes available.
