Student from Kapiolani Community College Showcase their Fish dishes.
21 April 2025: Pacific Islands Fisheries Group and participating Community Colleges and High schools hosted events at Kaua’i Community College, Leeward Community College, and Kapiolani Community College last week as part of a Salton-Stall Kennedy Grant to help introduce the next generation of Culinary Chefs in Hawaii to sustainable seafood, working with fish, and the background of Hawaii’s fisheries.
This event touched over 70 students, and the reach of the fish sourced for the project expands close to 1,000 students across the high schools who get to work with fish.
Alan Tsuchiyama shared: “All this education we got is not just about sushi, but the students learned about sustainable fisheries and that we can trust sustainable fisheries and is extremely important for us to hear.”
